Episode 11: The Future of Bogota
In this episode we talk to a shining star of Colombian urban development and land use expert Nadya Rangel. She is the head of Secretaria Distrital of Habitat Bogotá-Colombia. She has decades of experience working with massive government projects and underserved communities to integrate them to the Bogota built environment in a way that is strategic to the sustainable urban development of Bogota.
Nadya takes us through her education background, and some of the most significant work throughout her professional career in urban development. She also shares the past, present and future of the most important initiatives in Colombia’s built environment like the Plan de Ordenamiento Territorial (Plan to Restructure the Territory). As all other metropolises worldwide, for Bogota it is no longer sustainable to live in a slum-like urban structure. Where economic activity is centralized, mobility requires hours daily, opportunity is full of obstacles, and it is the perfect ground to breed social/economic inequality.
Nadya also discusses some of the amazing work she is doing at Secretaria Distrital de Hábitat to make Bogotá a more sustainable, inclusive, safer, and affordable growing city.
Biography:
Nadya Milena Rangel Rada es politóloga del Colegio Mayor del Rosario y especialista en Mercados y Políticas del Suelo en América Latina de la Universidad Nacional.
Es la actual Secretaria Distrital del Hábitat y lidera la formulación de las políticas de gestión del territorio urbano y rural para el Distrito Capital. Cuenta con más de 10 años de experiencia en planeación, desarrollo territorial, urbano, gestión social de intervenciones urbanas e inmobiliarias, así como en responsabilidad social.
Se desempeñó como subsecretaria de Coordinación Operativa en la Secretaría del Hábitat y en la Subdirección de Participación y Relaciones con la Comunidad.
También trabajó en el Instituto Distrital de la Participación y Acción Comunal de Bogotá, al igual que en el municipio de La Calera donde se desempeñó como asesora en temas de planeación y hábitat.
